WSOC: Title Bound! Hofstra Advances to CAA Championship with 1-0 Win over James Madison

ELON, N.C. – The Hofstra University women's soccer team used a strike off of a corner kick during the 67th minute to knock off third-seeded James Madison University by a 1-0 margin to advance to the Colonial Athletic Association Championship match on Thursday, November 4.

Lucy Shepherd was credited with the game-winning strike, curling a free kick from the right corner flag into the six-yard box and off of a James Madison defender and into the back of the net to give Hofstra the 1-0 advantage. It was all Hofstra leading up to the breakthrough moment, as the Blue and Gold out-shot the Dukes 13-0 during the first half and 19-1 for the match.

Hofstra dominated the entire performance, compiling 10 corners and not conceding any to the Dukes. Skylar Kuzmich needed just one save to earn her 11th shutout and Hofstra's 12th overall.

On the offensive end, Shepherd led the Pride with five shots, while Miri Taylor and Lucy Porter notched four each.

Hofstra improved to 15-3-1 overall while James Madison saw its season come to a close at 9-9-1.

With the win, Hofstra will take on fourth-seeded Northeastern University for the CAA title. The Huskies upset regular-season champion UNCW during the first semifinal match of the evening by a 1-0 margin as well. The championship match is slated for Sunday, November 7 at 1 p.m. at Rudd Field on the campus of Elon University. The match will be streamed live on FloFC.
