MSOC: Hofstra's Magical Season Ends In NCAA Third Round Loss To Pitt

Pittsburgh, PA - Hofstra's magical 2021 season ended Saturday night in a 4-0 loss to fifth-seeded Pittsburgh in the third round of the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship at Ambrose Urbanic Field. The Pride, which advanced to the third round for the first time in program history, saw its season end with a record of 18-2-2. Hofstra's 18 wins are a school record.

The teams battled for nearly 40 minutes with each side having scoring chances until the Panthers broke through at 39:32 as Flip Mirkovic sent in a long shot from well outside the box that bent inside the near post.

Pitt came out of the locker room and drew an early second half corner kick with Mirkovic sending in the cross that went over the heads of several players and landed at the feet of Raphael Crivello, who chipped a shot into the upper right corner for a 2-0 lead at the 48:22 mark. The Panthers would add a goal from Berlin Jacquesson at 62:50 and Crivello completed the brace with an unassisted goal at 67:25 as he banged in his own rebound.

Wessel Speel made seven saves on the day for the Pride, who were outshot, 23-7. Nico Campuzano had one save for Pitt.

The Panthers will face the winner of tomorrow's Wake Forest-Notre Dame game in the NCAA Quarterfinals next weekend.
