Richmond, VA - Sophomore
Darlinstone Dubar posted a career-high 18 points and redshirt sophomore
Kvonn Cramer added a season-best 15 points but it wasn't enough as Richmond pulled away late in the second half to post an 81-68 victory over the Hofstra men's basketball team on Monday evening at the Robins Center.
Hofstra falls to 1-4 with the loss, while Richmond improves to 3-2 with the victory. This marked Hofstra's fifth straight road game to start the season. It is the most road/neutral games to start a season since the 2006-07 team played six straight away from Hempstead to open that campaign.
Cramer added a season-high eight rebounds, while the Pride also got 18 points from graduate student
Zach Cooks.
It was a great start to the game for Hofstra as Stone scored five points in a game-opening 7-0 run for the Pride to take the early advantage. Stone's second three-pointer of the opening stanza at the 16:05 mark would give the Pride its first double figure lead of the contest at 16-6.
The Pride continued to hold the advantage in the half and pushed the lead to as many as 14 in the opening 20 minutes following a three-pointer from Cooks with 6:14 left before the intermission that made it 37-23 in favor of the visitors. Richmond gradually chipped away at the deficit and closed the gap to four at the break as they scored the final five points of the half after Dubar put home a dunk with 1:19 left. Dubar tallied 14 first half points to tie his career-high at that point.
Richmond would take its first lead of the game early in the second half as the Spiders used an 8-0 scoring run to earn a 48-46 lead at the 17:02 mark after a three-pointer from Jacob Gilyard.
Hofstra continued to battle throughout the second half and a layup from Cooks at the 9:51 mark would knot the score at 61 after Richmond had led for the last few minutes of the contest.
A layup from Stone followed by a free throw from Cramer would make it a one-point game, 65-64, with 7:26 left in the second half before Richmond put together a 13-0 scoring run to take a commanding 14-point lead en route to the victory.
Senior
Omar Silverio finished with nine points for Hofstra, which got a tema-high four assists from junior
