Sorelle Ineza hit a long two-point jumper as time expired as Hofstra notched a 55-53 victory over visiting Loyola Maryland Saturday afternoon at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. Hofstra scored the final three points after watching Loyola erase a seven-point deficit in the final minutes.
Hofstra moved to 2-1 on the season with its second consecutive win. Loyola Maryland fell to 2-3 on the season and saw its two-game win streak stopped.

JaKayla Brown led all scorers with 20 points and added four assists.
Jaylen Hines scored 14 points and shared the team lead with seven rebounds. Ineza finished with eight points and her game-winning basket was her first bucket since the first quarter. The junior guard added six rebounds and four assists.
Jaala Henry pulled down seven rebounds to share team-high honors.
Hofstra had a productive first quarter, scoring 23 points and shooting 10-16 from the field. Brown had nine points in the quarter and Ineza added six. The Pride would race out to a 9-0 lead in the first 2:03 behind a jumper from Brown, a three from Ineza and back-to-back baskets from Hines. The Greyhounds would respond with 11 consecutive points to take the lead with 5:08 on the clock. Hofstra then ran off nine unanswered points for an 18-11 lead following a layup from Brown with 2:10 to go. Brown would add five more points in the stanza as the Pride held a nine-point advantage, 23-14, after one quarter.
The Pride would score the first five points of the second quarter and went up by 14 after a Hines three-pointer with 8:09 on the clock. Hofstra held a 33-20 lead with 3:16 to go after a three-point play from
Zyheima Swint before the Greyhounds closed out the half with four points as the Pride would settle for a 33-24 halftime lead.
Loyola scored 13 of the first 15 points of the third quarter and took a 37-35 lead with 3:54 on the clock following Bri Rozzi's three-pointer. Brown's three 50 seconds later gave the Pride a one-point lead but the Greyhounds scored six of the next eight points to lead after 30 minutes, 43-40.
Hofstra scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter, including two three-pointers by Brown, to take a five-point lead with 5:52 to go. The Pride lead would grow to seven, 52-45 with 4:24 remaining following a hook shot from Hines. That would be Hofstra's last points for nearly four minutes as Loyola ran off eight unanswered points to led 53-52 with 1:57 to play. Hofstra ended its scoreless drought and tied the score with a free throw from Hines with 37 seconds left. Loyola would miss a shot with eight seconds and Hofstra corralled the rebound. After a Pride timeout with seven seconds left, Ineza took a pass from Rosie Nicholson and drained the jumper from the left wing in front of the Hofstra bench for the win.
Taleah Dixon had 14 points to lead three Greyhounds in double figures. Laura Salmeron added 13 points and Lex Therien had 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Hofstra returns to action Wednesday afternoon, November 24, with a matinee at Georgia Tech. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m.

-The last second win was Hofstra's first since Jan. 15, 2009 when the Pride defeated Towson, 57-55, on Joelle Connolly's buzzer beater.
-Hofstra is now 1-2 all-time versus Loyola.
