Hempstead, NY – There were plenty of treats and no tricks for the Hofstra women's soccer team as the Pride dominated the College of Charleston in the regular season finale, 6-0 on a pleasant Halloween Sunday afternoon at the Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
The Pride was due for a big offensive outing and came through with a season-high six goals, including a hat trick by fifth-year midfielder,
Lucy Porter. Porter scored three goals for the Pride in a 10-minute span, and also added a pair of assists to mark a season-high eight points. Hofstra also saw goals from freshman
Georgia Brown, junior
Ellen Halseth, and senior
Miri Taylor, while Taylor also notched two second half assists.
Also finding their way on the stat sheet was fifth-year forward
Lucy Shepherd, fifth-year midfielder
Jordan Littleboy, and fifth-year forward
Amanda Ebbesson who tallied two, one, and one assists, respectively.
The match was unbalanced from start to finish, as the Pride posted a 34-1 advantage in total shots and 18-0 shots on goal margin.
After several close chances early on, Brown finally knocked the door down when she was left wide open directly in front of the net before blasting home her sixth goal of the season. Hofstra continued to control the pace throughout the remainder of the stanza but held a slim 1-0 edge heading into halftime.
Hofstra put the gas pedal through the floor in the second frame, pouring on five goals in a 15-minute span to earn the dominant victory. Halseth doubled Hofstra's lead with a tap-in goal directly in front of the goal line in the 62nd minute before Porter finished off a through ball by Taylor minutes later, putting Hofstra at a comfortable three-goal lead.
The senior day magic continued when Porter capitalized on a Taylor assist for Hofstra's fourth goal, before four minutes later, the scoring switched and Taylor gently flicked in a header following a forward chip by Porter. Porter put the icing on the cake with her third goal of the match, a penalty kick in the 77th minute.
Hofstra closed out the regular season with a 14-3-1 overall record and 6-2-1 Colonial Athletic Association mark. Charleston saw its season come to a close with a 3-12-3 overall record and 2-6-1 CAA mark.
Hofstra will now shift focus toward the 2021 CAA Championship presented by Primis, hosted on the campus of Elon University. The Pride will be the No. 2 seed and will take on the No. 3 seed, James Madison in the second semifinal matchup on the day. Kick-off at Rudd Field is set for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 4. The match will be streamed live on FloFC.
