FH: Hofstra Drops CAA Road Game to James Madison

Harrisonburg, VA - Junior Mercedes Currie tallied her sixth goal of the season and junior Merlijn van der Vegt made eight stops, but three unanswered James Madison goals in the second quarter helped the Dukes hand the Pride a 5-1 defeat in CAA action from the JMU Field Hockey Complex. Hofstra now sits at 5-7 overall and 0-2 in the conference following today's result.

James Madison (6-4, 2-0 CAA) struck first when reigning CAA Player of the Year Eveline Zwager assisted to Aubrey King in front of Hofstra's net. Currie leveled the score at 1-1 30 seconds into the second quarter when she found herself on the receiving end of a pass from senior Mercy Jasterzenski.

Unfortunately, the tie score wouldn't last long as James Madison blitzed Hofstra with three unanswered goals to put the hosts well ahead. Diede Remijnse scored to retake the lead for James Madison just seconds after Currie's goal, and the Dukes added to the advantage with an Emily Harrison goal at 10:27, before Remijnse scored her second with 1:15 left in the quarter, putting the score at 4-1 to James Madison going into halftime.

The Dukes would score their fifth and final goal of the afternoon with three second left in the third quarter off a rebound goal by Mikenna Allen.

Hofstra will return to Hempstead for its next set of games, starting with a 3p.m. game on Friday, October 8, against No. 23 Delaware.
