FH: Hofstra Concludes 2021 Season at Northeastern

Boston, MA - The 2021 Hofstra field hockey season came to a close as the Pride dropped a 5-0 decision to the Northeastern Huskies on the road Friday evening.
 
Hofstra racked up 10 corners to Northeastern's seven, but the Huskies posted 16 shots to Hofstra's eight to ultimately claim the decision. Northeastern scored first in the 11th minute of action before doubling that lead off a corner as time expired at the end of the first quarter. Senior Djuna Slort opened up the second stanza with a strong defensive save before on the other end, Hofstra earned a penalty corner and rattled off back-to-back shots on goal by Cami Larsson and Eline Oldeman. Northeastern responded quickly with one more goal to make it a 3-0 score before the halftime break.  
 
Two early third quarter goals extended Northeastern's lead, but the Pride fought all the way through the final whistle with nine penalty corner opportunities in the fourth quarter. Slort and Larsson each had shots denied by the Huskies off corner attempts, before Northeastern made one final save against Larsson in the final seconds of play.
 
Goalkeeper Merlijn van der Vegt recorded three saves on the day while Cecelia DeSimone had one. The Pride also had two total defensive saves, both by Slort.
 
Hofstra closed out its season with a 7-11 mark overall and 1-5 record in Colonial Athletic Association action. Northeastern improved to 6-11 overall and 3-3 in the CAA following the match.
 
Notes:
-Freshman Eline Oldeman finished as Hofstra's top scorer for the season with seven goals and two assists for 16 points.
-Mercedes Currie finished second on the team with six goals.
-Lara Borensztein and Cami Larsson rounded out the top-four offensive players with 10 points each. Borensztein posted five goals this season and Larsson tallied four goals and two assists.
