Elon, N.C. – The No. 25 Hofstra University women's soccer team took the lead early in the second half, but the Elon Phoenix scored a pair of late goals, including the double-overtime game winner as the Pride suffered a 2-1 decision on the road on Sunday afternoon.
Hofstra falls to 13-3-1 overall and 5-2-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association, while Elon improves to 8-5-2 and 3-2-2 in the league.
Hofstra controlled the pace for nearly the entirety of the match, as the Pride once again held a dominant advantage in opportunities, 15-5. Elon managed to put only two shots on goal for the entire 107 minutes of play, but found the back of the net on both of those chances.
Just over 10 minutes into the second stanza, Elon committed a hand ball inside the box, allowing fifth-year midfielder
Lucy Porter to successfully convert on a penalty kick to the top left corner of the net, putting Hofstra up 1-0 in the 55th minute. Elon tallied the equalizer on its first chance of the second half as Lydia Totten found the back of the net with just over 11 minutes remaining in regulation.
Hofstra came out with fire in the first overtime and nearly claimed the match just about two minutes in when
Olivia Pearse's shot hit the left post before three more chances occurred for Hofstra in the next minute, including two shots on goal by
Ellen Halseth. The Pride finished the first overtime period with six shots without allowing one for Elon.
In the 107th minute, the Phoenix scored the golden goal as Carson Jones finished off a set piece served in by Jessica Carrieri near midfield.
The Hofstra women's soccer team will look to finish the regular season strong at home for a meeting against the Charleston Cougars. Kick-off on Sunday, October 31 is set for 12 p.m.

-Hofstra is now 7-2 all-time against Elon
-The match was the first loss in extra time for Hofstra since Sept. 10, 2017. Since that date, Hofstra is 6-1-6 in matches heading into extra time.
