WSOC: No. 12 Hofstra Draws With William & Mary

Hempstead, NY – Despite another outing where the No. 12 Hofstra University women's soccer team dominated in total chances, the Pride settled for a scoreless double overtime draw against the William & Mary Tribe on Sunday afternoon at the Hofstra Soccer stadium.

Hofstra finished with an unbalanced 21-4 advantage over the Tribe in total shots, including a 10-4 edge in shots on goal. Senior forward Miri Taylor took a team-high five shots, while fifth-year midfielder Lucy Porter followed with four. Fifth-year forwards Lucy Shepherd and Amanda Ebbesson each had three chances, with Shepherd leading the team with three shots on goal. Hofstra also tallied seven corner kicks to William & Mary's one.

Despite the outcome, junior goalkeeper Skylar Kuzmich earned her eighth solo shutout of the season and Hofstra's ninth. Kuzmich made four saves in goal to keep things scoreless on the defensive end.

In the 82nd minute, Ebbesson took a pass from Porter the top of the box and slid it right through Tribe keeper Zoe Doughty's legs to find the back of the net, but a close offside call was made, negating Hofstra's go-ahead tally.

In the final minute of regulation, Kuzmich made a diving save to preserve the score and send the match to overtime. Neither team registered a shot for either overtime period, and Hofstra was awarded a corner kick with less than 10 seconds remaining, but time quickly expired to end the match.

Hofstra moves to 12-2-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association while William & Mary is 3-7-2 overall and 1-2-2 in the CAA.

Hofstra returns to the pitch this Thursday, October 21 for a road contest against the Drexel Dragons. Kickoff in Philadelphia is set for 5 p.m.
