FH: Hofstra Blanks Towson in Home Finale

Hempstead, NY - In the final home game of the 2021 season for the Hofstra field hockey team, the Pride scored a 2-0 win over Towson for their first Colonial Athletic Association win of the season. With Friday's win from the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium, Hofstra improves to 6-9 overall and 1-4 in conference play as the season nears its conclusion.

Following a scoreless opening quarter, the Pride got themselves on the board off the stick of Lara Borensztein. The freshman sprinted in from the left post and dove to deflect a ball sent towards the Towson goal by Djuna Slort, and Borensztein bagged her fifth goal of the season four minutes into the second quarter.

Hofstra added to its lead five minutes into the third quarter on a penalty stroke. The official made the call after Frankie O'Brien had a shot tipped out of the goal by a Towson player, allowing Hofstra to take the shot from the dot. Cami Larsson stepped up against Towson's Lena Vandam, and the senior midfielder buried her shot into the top corner for her fourth of the season, giving Hofstra a 2-0 lead early in the third.

Towson (3-11, 1-4 CAA) upped the pressure down by two, but Merlijn van der Vegt and the resilient Hofstra defense prevented any shots from hitting the back of the net. The final whistle sounded and Hofstra picked up its first conference win of the season over the Tigers.

The Pride heads to Connecticut on Sunday, October 17, for a 1 p.m. non-conference clash against Fairfield.
