WBB: Hofstra Drops CAA Decision to Towson

TOWSON, Md. – The Hofstra women's basketball team closed out its weekend Colonial Athletic Association series with Towson on Sunday and fell to the Tigers by a score of 92-64 at SECU Arena.

Junior JaKayla Brown scored a team-high 15 points for the Pride, her fourth-straight contest leading Hofstra in the scoring column. Joining Brown in double figures was junior Jaala Henry who chipped in 11 points for Hofstra. Junior Vanerlie Valcourt shot 4-of-5 from the field for Hofstra for nine points, and redshirt junior Jaylen Hines added eight points. Valcourt also tied for a team-high four rebounds and had a career-high four swipes.

It was all Towson from the start, as the Tigers jumped out to a 17-point lead by the end of the first quarter, 28-11. Hofstra was unable to catch fire in the second, as the home team carried a 48-23 lead into the locker room.

Hofstra went on to score 28 points in the fourth quarter, the most points in a quarter this season. Valcourt scored seven of her nine points in the final frame, shooting a perfect 3-of-3 from the field. The deficit was just too much for Hofstra to overcome, however, as Towson came away with the weekend sweep.

With the loss, the Pride drop to 4-10 overall and 2-6 in the CAA.

Hofstra will aim to turn things around next weekend for a home series against UNCW on Saturday, January 30 and Sunday, January 31. Tip-off time for both contests is at 2 p.m. These games are closed to the public and no tickets will be sold. The games will be streamed live on FloHoops and WRHU live audio will also be available.
