WBB: Brown Scores Career-High 26 as Hofstra Falls to Delaware

Hempstead, NY – Despite a career-high 26 points from junior JaKayla Brown, the Hofstra University women's basketball team dropped a 65-46 decision to the University of Delaware on Sunday, Jan. 17 at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.

Brown led all players in scoring on the day, shooting 10-of-18 overall from the field and 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. Redshirt-junior Jaylen Hines added in seven points, while classmate Jaala Henry hauled in a team-high nine rebounds.

Delaware stymied Hofstra offensively over the first five minutes, jumping out to an early 13-3 lead at the first media timeout. The Blue Hens continued to keep the Pride at an arm's length throughout the remainder of the first half, entering the locker room with a 31-20 advantage.

For the second-consecutive day, Hofstra chipped away at the deficit to begin the third quarter. Hines kicked off the scoring with a layup 40 seconds into the half, sparking a 10-2 burst for the Pride. Brown tallied eight points during the run to bring Hofstra within three points at 33-30. It was as close as Hofstra could come to the Blue Hens, as Delaware closed the stanza on a 13-3 run and extended the lead to 20 points late in the contest to earn the victory.

Hofstra will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 23 for the first of two matchups at Towson University at 2:00 p.m.
