Hempstead, NY - Welcome to the Hofstra Family Spotlight. Our goal is to showcase our Hofstra family members, including our loyal corporate partners and season ticket holders, to let the Hofstra community learn more about them and how they support the Pride athletics program.
Our next Hofstra Family Spotlight on our corporate partners features Northwell Health Orthopedic Institute. Meet Russell Camhi, DO, ATC and Randy Cohn, MD.
Northwell Health Orthopedic Institute provides overall medical care for all Hofstra student-athletes. Dr. Camhi's role as head team physician is to oversee the sports medicine staff on campus as well as provide general medical and complete musculoskeletal care for all student-athletes. Camhi says, "now more than ever it is imperative to have a comprehensive approach to the way we provide medical care to student-athletes amidst the COVID-19 pandemic." They also work in direct contact with Northwell STARS, the exclusive physical therapy provider for Hofstra University. Through STARS, Northwell works to coordinate the rehabilitation process of our student-athletes as they recover from their injuries.
Northwell Health has been at the forefront of this pandemic. Specifically with Hofstra athletics, "the decision to suspend sports last spring and now the fall due to the pandemic has been a difficult one," says Camhi, "however I have remained in constant contact with the Athletics Department and Sports Medicine Staff throughout the pandemic as we explore all avenues to find the safest way to allow athletes to continue to participate in athletic activity and competition amidst COVID-19." He is currently part of a multi-disciplinary team to help develop the return-to-campus guidelines and is constantly updating the return to sport guidelines as the pandemic keeps changing.
Camhi and Cohn both say their favorite part about partnering with Hofstra is working with the motivated student-athletes as well as the dedicated athletics department staff.
