BB: Hofstra To Host LIU Wednesday In Home Opener

Hempstead, NY - Following 13 games on the road, the Hofstra University baseball team will play their home opener Wednesday, March 11 at 3 p.m. versus Long Island University.

Hofstra is 3-10 on the season and is coming off a gut-wrenching three games at New Mexico. The Pride rallied in the ninth inning of all three games to take the lead or tie the score only to see the Lobos win each game in the bottom of the ninth. The Pride offense was stellar, batting .359 in the series to raise the overall team average 20 points to .300. Austin Gauthier batted .538 on the weekend with six runs scored. Ryan Morash hit .625 with five runs while Vinnie Costello hit .400 with a pair of home runs and five RBIs.

LIU enters the game with a record of 5-6 and is coming off a three-game sweep of Saint Peter's. Anthony Warneke is the Sharks top hitter at .419 with three doubles and eight stolen bases. Cooper Shearon has a team-high eight RBIs. Wednesday's starting pitcher, Michael Andreoli, is 0-0 with a 5.79 ERA in two appearances.

Hofstra, which has won its last three home openers, will send Steven Boscia to the mound for his fourth start of the season. The senior is 0-1 with a 12.34 ERA.

This will be the first meeting between Hofstra and LIU since the LIU campuses merged their athletic departments. Hofstra was 27-24 all-time versus LIU Brooklyn and 14-20 against LIU Post.

Following the game, Hofstra is back on the road for nine consecutive games beginning this weekend with four games against Dartmouth in Winter Haven, Florida.
