Bethpage, NY - The Hofstra University men's tennis team picked up its third consecutive win Tuesday, defeating Sacred Heart by a score of 4-2 at Sportime. The Pride moved to 5-2 on the season with the victory.
Hofstra took the doubles point winning the two completed flights. At No. 2,
Shawn Jackson and
Ostap Kovalenko downed Matic Podlipnik and Ayman Khan, 6-1.
Jonathan Mahrt Guyou and
Yusuke Nishitani clinched the point for the Pride at No. 3 with a 6-3 victory over Omar Abdo and Tyler Lowe.
Jun Sasagawa got Hofstra off on the right foot in singles, winning 6-3, 7-5 over Podlipnik at No. 3. The Pioneers would tie the match at 2-2 following three-set wins at No. 1 and No. 2 but Kovalenko won in three sets at No. 4 over Khan (6-3, 3-6, 6-0) and Nishitani followed suit with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Peter Roessel at No. 5 to clinch the match. The sixth flight singles match was unfinished due to the outcome of the match already decided.
Sacred Heart slipped to 1-8 with the loss.
Hofstra is back in action Saturday against Binghamton at Sportime in Bethpage. Match time is 4:30 p.m.
