Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra University men's tennis team defeated Connecticut, 4-0, Saturday afternoon at Sportime in Bethpage. The Pride won all three completed singles matches and two completed doubles flights.
Jun Sasagawa and
Alvaro Arce Lopez-Sanchez got things started for the Pride with a 6-2 win over Christian Provenzano and John Michael Holtmann at No. 1 doubles.
Jonathan Mahrt Guyou and
Yusuke Nishitani clinched the point at the No. 3 flight with a 6-4 win against Evan Powell and Luke Riemann.
Hofstra kept rolling in singles play as
Jun Sasagawa posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 4 over Provenzano to make it a 2-0 match. Lopez Sanchez followed with a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 2 over Holtmann for a 3-0 lead. Mahrt Guyou clinched the victory at No. 5, winning 6-3, 6-2 over Powell. The Pride was up a set in two of the other three matches while the third was tied at one set apiece.
The Pride is back in action Sunday afternoon against Lafayette. The match begins at 1 p.m. at Sportime.
