Hempstead, NY - William & Mary got a pair of 23-point performances from Eva Hodgson and Victoria Reynolds as the Tribe picked up a 66-53 Colonial Athletic Association victory over Hofstra Friday afternoon at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.
Hofstra slipped to 3-12 overall and 0-4 in the CAA with its sixth consecutive loss. William & Mary improved to 12-4 overall and 3-2 in league action with its second consecutive victory.
Hofstra was led by
Ana Hernandez Gil's 11 points.
Sandra Karsten joined her in double-figures with 10 points and added a team-high seven rebounds.
Marianne Kalin chipped in with nine points and six rebounds. Hernandez Gil added three assists and three steals.
Jaylen Hines had eight points and six rebounds for the Pride while
Sorelle Ineza added eight points and three assists.
The teams played a tightly-contested first quarter that featured three ties and four lead changes. William & Mary would pull away over the final 2:14 with a 6-1 run, turning an 11-11 tie into a 17-12 advantage after the opening 10 minutes. Â
The Tribe maintained their advantage throughout the second quarter, though Hofstra got as close as two, 21-19, with 5:20 to play. following back-to-back three-pointers from Karsten and Hernandez Gil. William & Mary would respond with a 7-0 run and then extended their lead to 11, 32-21, with 1:25 to play on a Reynolds jumper. Hofstra would go into halftime trailing by nine, 32-23.
The Pride would not get closer than nine points in the second half of the game. The Tribe took their largest lead of the game up to that point, 46-29, with 4:05 to play in the third quarter on a Reynolds layup. From that point, the Pride got as close as 10, 55-45, with 6:02 to play in the fourth quarter as Hernandez Gil drained three-pointers on consecutive possessions. The Tribe responded with five unanswered points to go back up by 15, 60-45, with 5:01 to go.
Reynolds pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds and added two blocks and three steals. Hodgson added five rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Notes:
-Hofstra leads the all-time series with William & Mary, 29-14-1, but the Tribe has won four straight games.
-Attendance was 2,579 as the 11:30 a.m. tipoff was part of Education Day with approximately 2,500 elementary and middle school students and teachers in attendance.
-Hofstra was 5-7 from three-point range with Karsten 2-2 and Hernandez Gil 3-5.
-William & Mary was 20-22 from the free throw line while Hofstra was 6-10.
