HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – A dominating performance by the Hofstra University women's soccer team pushed the team's current win-streak to six games on Sunday, Sept. 29 as the Pride defeated Elon University, 5-0.
Hofstra held a 31-4 advantage in shots on the day, including a 12-1 margin in shots on goal and a 6-1 edge in corner kicks. The barrage was led by junior midfielder
Sabrina Bryan who found the back of the net twice and tallied a team-high eight shot attempts. Classmate
Lucy Porter added one goal on six shots, while sophomore
Miri Taylor and freshman
Brianna Passaro also scored once.
The Pride wasted no time taking full control of the match as Bryan scored her first goal during the seventh minute on a helper by Taylor. Just 29 seconds later, the Phoenix took down a Hofstra forward in the penalty area and Porter buried the ensuing penalty kick inside the left post to make it 2-0 less than seven minutes into the match. Taylor capped off the early scoring run with a header inside the far post off of a bending cross by junior
Lucy Shepherd during the 13th minute.
Just before the end of the half, Passaro volleyed home the first goal of her career on a bouncing ball into the penalty area by freshman
Anja Suttner to give the Blue and Gold a four-goal lead at the halftime break.
Bryan tallied the final goal of the match during the 56th minute when she chipped the Elon goalkeeper with a soft header on a ball from junior
Jordan Littleboy for her fourth goal of the season. Sophomore goalkeeper
Grace Watson-Carr stopped Elon's only shot on goal during the 75th minute to preserve the shutout and lift Hofstra to a 2-0 mark in Colonial Athletic Association play.
The Pride return to the pitch on Thursday, Oct. 3 at Northeastern University for a 6:00 p.m. matchup with the Huskies.
