WSOC: Hofstra Downs Penn for Fourth-Straight Win

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Hofstra University Women's Soccer team (6-3-0) scored two first half goals to defeat the University of Pennsylvania (4-2-1) by a score of 2-1 at Rhodes Field on Friday evening. Hofstra earned its fourth-straight victory with the win.

It was a very evenly matched contest, although Hofstra out-shot the Quakers, 16-13 overall and 8-5 on shots on goal. Junior forward Sabrina Bryan led with six shots including three on goal for the Pride.

It took just over nine minutes for Hofstra to find its way on to the scoreboard, when junior midfielder Lucy Porter chipped in her ninth goal off the season off a feed from sophomore midfielder Miri Taylor just in front of the goal. Taylor would then double Hofstra's lead in the 23rd minute after gaining possession on the back line and firing a shot that deflected off of Pennsylvania goalkeeper, Kitty Qu. Hofstra piled on six more opportunities by the midway point, however it remained a two-goal contest halfway through.

Penn slashed the score in half with a penalty kick goal in the 57th minute, but that was all the home team would manage to produce as goalkeeper Skylar Kuzmich stopped the final two shots on goal by the Quakers. Junior midfielder Bella Richards had one more opportunity on target for the Pride, but the one-goal lead was enough as time expired for Hofstra's sixth victory of the season.

After nearly one week off, Hofstra will open Colonial Athletic Association action against the Drexel Dragons on Thursday, September 26 at the Hofstra Soccer Stadium. Match time is set for 6 p.m.
