East Meadow, NY - The Hofstra University women's golf team opened the 2019-20 season with a 316-323 loss to Long Island University Thursday at the Eisenhower Park Red Course. The Pride's
Cynthia Zhao placed second in the 13-player field with a 77 (+5).
Julia Towne of LIU was the individual medalist with a score of 75 (+3) on the par-72, 5,811-yard course.
Zhao, who parred 11 holes and added a birdie on another, was two strokes back, followed by the Sharks' Ashlee Garrett, who tallied a 78 (+6). Hofstra's
Emmah Federman tied for fourth place at 80 (+8), while teammates
Maya Torpey and
Cameron Waltman were tied for sixth at 82 (+10).
Averee Dovsek (t-9, 84) and
Ana Sofia Rodriguez (11, 87) rounded out the Hofstra contingent.
The Pride will return to action Sept. 28-29 at the Hartford Invitational in Bloomfield, Connecticut.
