HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Junior midfielder
Lucy Porter notched two goals as the Hofstra University Women's Soccer team (4-3-0) defeated the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights (1-3-3) at the Hofstra Soccer Stadium on Thursday evening.
Both the Hofstra offense and defense dominated for the entirety of the contest, as the Pride out-shot the Knights, 23-3 overall. In addition, Hofstra racked up 10 shots on goal while allowing just one.
Porter, who now leads Hofstra with eight goals this season, opened up the scoring in the 14th minute, blasting a shot into the back of the net after receiving a pass from sophomore midfielder,
Miri Taylor and junior midfielder,
Jordan Littleboy. Hofstra had other opportunities to extend the lead including shots by junior
Sabrina Bryan and freshman
Brianna Passaro, however those two attempts were both stopped by a diving Knights keeper, Amanda Fitzgerald.
FDU leveled the contest just 10 minutes later when a corner kick by the Knights snuck in the goal off of a Hofstra player. Just after halftime, the Pride took the lead when Bryan beat her defender up the left side and found Porter, who chipped a shot over Fitzgerald's shoulder to the far right side of the mesh.
Porter finished her night with eight total shots including three on goal, while Bryan tallied six shots with two on target. Junior forward
Lucy Shepherd placed all three of her shots on net.
Hofstra will return to the pitch on Sunday, September 15 for a meeting with the Columbia Lions at the Hofstra Soccer Stadium. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
