Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra University Baseball team begins a season-long five game home stand Tuesday when the Pride hosts Monmouth at 3 p.m. Hofstra will welcome Fairfield to University Field Wednesday at 3 p.m. before hosting Towson in a Colonial Athletic Association series beginning Friday.
Live statistics and a Pride Productions audio broadcast will be available for each game and can be accessed from the links above or on the baseball schedule page at GoHofstra.com.
Hofstra enters the week 5-21 on the season. The Pride is coming off a 1-2 weekend at Northeastern. Hofstra won the opening game of the series behind the pitching of
Jimmy Joyce and the hitting of
Parker Quinn. Joyce threw 6 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for his first career victory while Quinn spotted the Pride a 3-0 lead in the first inning with his first career home run. He would also add a single later in the contest.
Vito Friscia also contributed to the win with a pair of RBIs.
Monmouth, which defeated the Pride, 3-2, in 10 innings on March 26, enters the game with a record of 11-17-1 and is coming off being swept at home by Marist in a three-game series. In the first meeting Clay Koniencki's base hit down the right field line in the 10th inning gave Monmouth the win over the Pride. Monmouth opened the scoring in the second inning as Johnny Zega drew a leadoff walk and, after moving to second on an infield single, scored on Nick Campana's single through the left side. The Pride took advantage of their first scoring chance in the fourth as
Anthony D'Onofrio singled and
Matt Siedem walked to start the inning. But a double play grounder threatened to thwart the rally before
Rob Weissheier launched an opposite field home run to right that gave the Pride a 2-1 lead. The lead was short-lived as Koniencki led off the bottom of the inning with a single, moved to second on passed ball, to third on a wild pitch and scored on an infield single to know the score at 2. The score remained that way until the 10th inning as a leadoff walk to JP Walsh was followed by JD Andreessen's single to left. Zega worked a walk to load the bases and Koniencki took the first pitch he saw and lined it inside the right-field line to score Walsh and give the Hawks the walk-off win. Regan Dombrowski, the third of three Monmouth pitchers, picked up the win after throwing two perfect innings. Joyce, Hofstra's fifth pitcher, took the loss for the Pride after coming on to start the 10th inning.
Fairfield is 15-14 on the year. The Stags defeated Siena in their last game, 4-2. Jack Gethings leads the Stags with a .391 average. Anthony Boselli is batting .367 with 10 doubles, a pair of home runs, and 31 RBIs.
The Pride is 3-10-1 all-time versus Monmouth and 9-13 against Fairfield.
Mark Faello will start for the Pride Tuesday against Monmouth while
Kyle Skidmore will get the nod on Wednesday against Fairfield.
