MLAX: Three Tally Hat-Tricks As Hofstra Tops Fairfield In Finale

Fairfield, CT – Pride junior Ryan Tierney tallied three goals, including the 100th of his career, and two assists, classmate Ryan Kinnard and sophomore Dylan McIntosh also added three goals as Hofstra ended their 2019 season with an 11-9 victory over the Fairfield Stags in a Colonial Athletic Association game at Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium Friday night.

The Pride conclude the season with a 5-9 mark including a 2-3 slate in the CAA. The Stags finish the year with a 5-9 overall mark and 0-5 in the CAA.

Tierney became the 10th Hofstra player to tally 100 goals in a career with his third goal of the contest that tied the game at 9-9 with 4:18 to play. McIntosh got the game-winner with 3:31 to play and added an assist in the contest. Kinnard cemented the game with his third goal with 2:24 to play to boost the Pride lead to 11-9. Senior Jimmy Yanes and sophomore Riley Forte scored the other Pride goals. Sophomore goalie Bobby Casey recorded eight saves for his fifth win of the year.

Fairfield was led by Patrick Drake with four goals while Dylan Beckwith added five assists and Taylor Strough tallied two goals. Travis Ford contributed a goal and an assist. Goalie James Corasaniti made 13 saves in the Fairfield cage.

The Stags jumped out to an early lead just 49 seconds into the contest as Jack Brennan opened the scoring. After Hofstra's Ryan Tierney tied the game with his 40th goal of the season less than 90 seconds later, Fairfield's Taylor Strough gave the Stags a 2-1 lead after one quarter with a goal with 5:43 to play.

The Pride gained their first lead of the contest with a three-goal run in the first 8:52 of the period. Jimmy Yanes tied the game at 2-2 at the 13:56 mark off a pass from freshman defender Daniel Ochs. Junior Ryan Kinnard gave the Pride a 3-2 lead with his 11th goal of the year from Dylan McIntosh at the 9:16 mark. Sophomore Riley Forte then followed with his ninth goal of the year with 6:08 to play in the half for a 4-2 lead. The Stags closed to within one with 3:57 to play in the half on Travis Ford's 22nd goal of the year. But McIntosh gave the Pride a 5-3 lead at halftime with his 10th goal of the season with 0:44 to play in the period.

Fairfield regained the lead in the third quarter with four unanswered goals to open the period. Strough closed the deficit to 5-4 just 59 seconds into the period before Drake scored the next three to give the Stags a 7-5 advantage with 2:57 to play in the period. But the Pride had their own three-goal run as Tierney scored with 1:48 to play in the third and Kinnard and McIntosh scored in the first 3:25 of the fourth for an 8-7 lead.

Drake and Brendan Dreyer scored 1:24 apart to give the Stags a 9-8 lead with 5:29 to play. But Tierney tied the game 71 seconds later with his 42nd of the year and 100th of his career at the 4:18 mar. McIntosh then tallied the game-winner off a pass from Tierney with 3:31 to play before Kinnard sealed the game with his third of the game and 13th of the year with 2:24 to play.

- Tierney's 42 goals in 2019 are the eighth-most in a single season at Hofstra while his 55 points are 10th most. He now ranks 10th in career points at Hofstra with 151 points.
