MTEN: Hofstra Rallies To Down Delaware In Regular Season Finale

Newark, DE – Coco Haener won in three sets in the final match of the day to snap a 3-3 tie and give the Pride a 4-3 victory at Delaware Saturday in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup. The Pride rallied from a 3-2 deficit to win the final two singles matches.

The Blue Hens (14-12, 0-2 CAA) took two of three doubles matches to win the point. Haener and Shawn Jackson did have a 6-3 victory over James Wilkinson and Justice Jones at No. 1. It was their 21st victory of the season and ties the school record held by teammates Marcus Smith and Jan Leithner.

The teams split the first two singles flights with Giacomo Pezzoli winning at No. 6 over Milo Nagle (6-4, 6-3) and Jones defeating Hofstra's Julien Wolfe at No. 5 (6-4, 6-3). Smith downed Wilkinson at No. 1 (6-4, 6-4) to even the match at 2. But the Blue Hens won at the No. 2 flight as Luis Molina defeated Jackson in three sets (5-7, 6-2, 6-0) to take a 3-2 lead. But Leithner dumped Laurenz Lankes (1-6, 6-3, 6-3) at No. 3 to set up Haener to be the hero. The Pride's senior defeated Blaise Casselbury, 6-4, in the first set before falling 5-7 in the second. But he turned the tables in the third and won by a 7-5 score to send the Pride (13-7, 1-1) home victorious.

Hofstra Coach Jason Pasion was pleased with the victory. "Great win today," he said. "Delaware is always a well-prepared team and well coached. I am proud of our guys for raising their level of play. We worked hard all year long and are looking forward to the CAA Championship at Elon."

The match marked the regular season finale. The Pride return to action next week at the CAA Championship at Elon.
