MTEN: Hofstra Drops Final Home Match To St. John's

Hempstead, NY - Marcus Smith and Jan Leithner won at the No. 2 doubles flight, but St. John's won the other two doubles flights and all three completed singles matches to post a 4-0 victory over the Pride Thursday at the Hofstra University Tennis Courts.

Hofstra fell to 12-7 on the season while the Red Storm improved to 15-5.

Smith and Leithner picked up a 6-4 victory over the St. John's tandem of Aditya Vashistha and Dusan Vukicevic. But wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 flights gave the Red Storm the point.

St. John's then got a 6-1, 6-1 victory from Ognjen Trejgut over the Pride's Giacomo Pezzoli at No. 5 singles to take a 2-0 lead. Andrei Crapcenco followed with a win over Smith at No. 1 (6-0, 6-1) before Vashistha ended the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Leithner at the No. 3 flight.  With the outcome decided, the other three matches were left unfinished.

Hofstra is back in action Friday when it plays its final match of the regular season at Colonial Athletic Association rival Delaware at 3 p.m.
