Emmitsburg, MD - Freshman
Shawn Jackson won his 26th match of the season to set a Hofstra Men's Tennis record as the Pride posted a 5-2 victory over Mount St. Mary's Wednesday. The win was Hofstra's third in a row and moved the Pride's record to 10-4.
Jackson bested the previous mark of 25, set by Nikola Djordjevic in 2003-04. He downed Parth Sharma in straight sets (6-2, 7-5) at No. 2 singles. That win gave the Pride a 2-0 lead in the match. Mount St. Mary's (1-12) won the next two flights (No. 1 and No. 3) to tie the score at two. But
Jan Leithner started a three-flight win streak to close the match out with a 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 4 over Alonso Garcia.
Giacomo Pezzoli clinched the win with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 5 over Jean Armstrong, while
Julien Wolfe finished things off with a win over Evan Hine at No. 6 (6-3, 6-3).
The Pride opened the match by taking all three doubles flights including a 7-5 win by Jackson and
Coco Haener at the No. 1 flight. Pezzoli and
Ryan Hardin gave the Pride the point with a 6-2 victory over Armstrong and Hine at No. 3.
Marcus Smith and Leithner won at No. 2 over Garcia and Gabriel Santos, 6-3.
Hofstra returns to action Thursday at Temple. The match will take place at Legacy Tennis Center in Philadelphia at 9 a.m.
