New Haven, CT - Hofstra rallied to win four of six singles flights and posted a 4-3 victory over Sacred Heart Friday night at Yale University. Mandisa Walle clinched the match for the Pride with a victory at the No. 6 flight that gave Hofstra a 4-2 lead.
Hofstra evened its record at 6-6 with the victory. Sacred Heart fell to 4-10 overall.
The doubles team of
Alejandra Ruffini and
Katherine Kachkarov got things started on the right foot for the Pride, picking up a 6-1 win over Olivia Podsiebierski and Keira Tobia at No. 1. But Sacred Heart won the next two flights to claim the doubles point.
Ruffini and
Sarah Catherine Herndon put the Pride on top, 2-1, with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 2 and No. 4 singles. The Pioneers picked up a win at the No. 1 flight before Kachkarov won at No. 3 (6-4, 6-2) over Keira and Walle followed with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Adrianne Alfonso that decided the match. Sacred Heart did win at No. 5 to account for the final score.
Hofstra will return to action with a pair of road matches on Tuesday, March 19. The Pride take on Coppin State at 12 p.m. and Loyola (MD) at 3:30 p.m.
