Alejandra Ruffini and
Katherine Kachkarov won their respective singles matches and Hofstra took the doubles point as well, but Fairleigh Dickinson won the decisive final singles flights to post a 4-3 victory over Hofstra late Saturday night at Sportime in Bethpage.The match was Hofstra's first of the spring season.
The Pride saw their record slip to 1-1 on the season while the Knights evened their record at 1-1.
Ruffini and Kachkarov picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2 doubles over the duo of Patricia Eftenoiu and Liza Rachenko to open the match. The Knights picked up a win at No. 3 before
Jasmine King and
Sarah Catherine Herndon claimed the point for the Pride with a 6-2 win over Marta Ruszczynska and Anamaria Vladescu at No. 1.
The Pride took a 2-0 lead after the first completed singles flights with Ruffini posting a 6-2, 6-4 win over Ruszczynska at No. 1 Fairleigh Dickinson reeled off three straight wins to take a 3-2 lead. Kachkarov tied the match with a victory over Rachenko at No. 4, 6-3, 6-2. But Smitri Singh won for the Knights at No. 6, 6-3, 7-6 to give the visitors the match victory.
Hofstra will be back in action Saturday, February 9 against Morgan State. The match will take place at Sportime Bethpage and begin at 5:30 p.m.
