Bethpage, NY - Hofstra won five of six singles matches and took the doubles point as well to pick up a 6-1 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson late Saturday night at Sportime. The win moved the Pride's record to 3-0 on the season.
Marcus Smith and
Julien Wolfe opened the match with a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles over Maciej Autuch and Eduardo Cabral. Following a Knights victory at the No. 1 flight,
Shawn Jackson and
Coco Haener dumped Moric Budinszky and Ivan Solans Diaz, 6-3, to earn the point for the Pride.
Smith opened singles with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Mehdi Dhouib at No. 1. Haener followed at No. 3 with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Budinszky to make it 3-0. .Jackson followed with a three-set win over Andris Gudins, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. The win was the freshman's team-leading 17th of the season and clinched the match victory.
Wolfe and
Giacomo Pezzoli also had wins for Hofstra with the former posting a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Autuch and the latter earning an 8-4 win against Solans Diaz.
Fairleigh Dickinson fell to 0-1 with the loss.
Hofstra will be back in action Saturday, February 9 against Morgan State. The match will take place at Sportime Bethpage and begin at 5:30 p.m.
