Hempstead, NY - Hofstra and Morgan State split the six singles matches, but the Bears won the doubles point in a 4-3 victory over Hofstra late Saturday night at Sportime Bethpage. The Pride suffered their first dual match loss of the season and slipped to 3-1.
Marcus Smith (No. 1),
Shawn Jackson (No. 2), and
Coco Haener (No. 3) each won their singles matches. Smith posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over Serhii Kharchev. Jackson followed with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Nihit Rawal that gave the Pride a 2-1 match lead. Haener downed Sebastian Lopez, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 to put Hofstra up by two before Morgan State won each of the last three flights to take the match.
Haener and Jackson continued their strong doubles play with a 7-5 win over Shrey Gupta and Lopez at the No. 1 flight. The pair improved to 10-1 on the season with their fifth consecutive victory.
Morgan State is 3-4 on the season and has a two-match win streak.Â
Hofstra is back in action today (Sunday) at 1 p.m. at Connecticut.
