Kingston, RI - Hofstra won the doubles point and took two singles flights, but Rhode Island won the decisive final singles match to snap a 3-3 tie and take a 4-3 victory over the Pride Saturday evening at the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
Hofstra saw its record evened at 4-4 while Rhode Island moved to 3-4.
Ronia Dolabany and
Odessa Stork picked up a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles over Sydney Chratian and Ariel Haber to open the match.
Sarah Catherine Herndon and
Jasmine King followed with a 6-3 victory at No. 1 over Erin Chratian and Mihaela Codreanu to clinch the point.
The Pride went up, 2-0, after Stork downed Haber at No. 5 singles in straight sets (6-2, 7-5). The Rams then ran off three straight flight wins to take a 3-2 lead. Herndon knotted the match at 3 with a 6-1, 5-7, 6-3 win over Paulina Loredo at the No. 4 flight. The final match between Erin Chratian and Ruffini went the distance but, in the end, it was Chratian who came out on top (6-1, 6-7, 6-3).
Hofstra will conclude its three-match road trip Sunday at Bryant.
