Bethpage, NY – The Hofstra Women's Tennis team split a pair of matches Sunday at Sportime in Bethpage. The Pride began the day with a 5-2 loss to LIU Brooklyn but rebounded to defeat Colgate, 6-1, in the afternoon.
The Pride swept all three doubles matches against the Red Raiders with
Alejandra Ruffini and
Katherine Kachkarov picking up a 6-3 victory over Colgate's Lauren O'Brien and Madi Kiani at No. 2 and
Odessa Stork and
Ronia Dolabany defeating Callie Bartimer and Nicole Condas, 6-3 at No. 3 to clinch the point.
Jasmine King and
Sarah Catherine Herndon completed the sweep with a 7-6 win at No. 1 over MacKenzie Deeter and Jordan Williams.
Ruffini downed Williams at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-2 to start that portion of the match and Kachkarov followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win over O'Brien at No. 3. That gave the Pride a 3-0 lead before Deeter picked up a win over King at No. 1 to get Colgate on the board. But
Ana Canahuate-Torres grabbed a 6-0, 6-1 win over Condas at No. 6. Mandisa Walle and Herndon also picked up wins for the Pride to account for the final score.
The Pride won one singles match and took the doubles point in the 5-2 loss to LIU Brooklyn.
Ruffini and Kachkarov won their No. 2 doubles match against Jessica Brzozowska and Sasha Bollweg, 6-3, and Stork and Dolabany clinched the point with a 7-6 victory at No. 3 over Malin Leysen and Jennifer Gogova.
But LIU Brooklyn took control by winning each of the first three completed flights (1, 6, 4) for a 3-1 lead. Ruffini picked up a win at No. 2 over Brzozowska, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, to make it a 3-2 score. Bollweg then clinched the match for the Blackbirds with a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 3 over Kachkarov.
Hofstra is 3-3 on the season. LIU Brooklyn is 3-2 and Colgate is 0-7.
