BB: Hofstra Falls To Incarnate Word In Series Finale

San Antonio, TX - Aaron Celestino threw five scoreless innings and the Incarnate Word offense scored 11 runs as the Cardinals defeated Hofstra Sunday afternoon, 11-1, at Sullivan Field. The win gave Incarnate Word the four-game series win over the Pride.

Incarnate Word (3-1) got all it would need in the second inning, scoring two runs. A leadoff hit batsman and a single put runners on first and second for Ryan Flores, who proceeded to double in the first Cardinal run. After an infield out, Sean Arnold knocked in the second run with a groundout to short.

The Cardinals would add four runs in the third, two in the fourth and two more in the fifth to extend to a 10-0 lead. That was more that enough for Celestino (1-0), who allowed five hits and struck out five batters during his outing. Johnny Foral followed with two innings of relief, allowing an unearned run in the seventh when Kevin O'Connor singled and later came in to score on a passed ball. John Shull pitched the final two innings for UIW, allowing one hit.

Jimmy Joyce (0-1) started for Hofstra and allowed five runs on three hits in 2 1/3 innings of work. Kyle Skidmore, Mark Faello and Mike Murray followed Joyce with Murray turning in a scoreless eighth inning in his debut.

Austin Pollock had a pair of hits for the Pride, while Vito Friscia, Sean Flaherty, Matt Siedem, O'Connor, Anthony D'Onofrio, and Ryan Morash each added one hit on the day.

Hofstra will be off until Friday March 1 when it travels to Kissimmee, Florida, for four games beginning with a matchup against Pittsburgh at 5 p.m.
