Bethpage, NY - Hofstra picked up a 5-2 win over Marist this afternoon at Sportime in Bethpage, snapping a two-match losing streak. The Pride won four singles flights and the doubles point.
Hofstra moved to 4-2 on the season while the Red Foxes fell to 2-2.
Marcus Smith and
Jan Leithner got things started with a 6-2 win at the No. 3 doubles flight over Jack Sequerth and Carlos Moreno. After a Marist win at No. 1, the team of
Coco Haener and
Shawn Jackson got past Max Darrington and Lars Schouten, 6-2, at the No. 2 flight to give Hofstra the point.
Smith opened singles play with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Schouten at No. 1 to make it a 2-0 lead for the Pride. Christopher Gladden got a win over Jackson at No. 2, 6-1, 6-2 that cut the Pride lead in half. Haener downed John Oxner, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 before Sequerth earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6 over Hofstra's
Ryan Hardin to make it a 3-2 match. But
Giacomo Pezzoli came up with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Kian Yazdi at No. 4 to clinch the match for the Pride.
Julien Wolfe added a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Darrington at No. 5 to account for the final score.
Hofstra is back in action tomorrow afternoon when it hosts Colgate at Sportime.
