HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Junior forward
Sabrina Bryan scored twice as the top-seeded Hofstra University Women's Soccer team downed the fifth-seeded Elon Phoenix by a score of 3-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association semifinal at the Hofstra Soccer Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Hofstra advances to the CAA title match with the win and makes its third-straight championship match appearance.
It was all Pride, all day long as Hofstra held a 26-4 advantage in shots over the Phoenix. The Pride owned a 15-1 edge in opportunities by the midway point and did not allow an Elon shot on target until the 75th minute of action.
Bryan put the Pride on the scoreboard just 2:43 into game action as she created her own opportunity just outside the 18-yard box and used her dominant left foot to send a shot to the back-right post. Hofstra continued to pile on chances, out-shooting the Phoenix 12-0 over the next 35 minutes of action before freshman
Anja Suttner gained possession off an Elon clear attempt from a Hofstra corner kick and sent home a rocket for the third goal of her rookie campaign.
Hofstra made it a three-goal contest in the 76th minute when junior
Amanda Ebbesson dribbled up the right sideline from all the way from midfield and sent a cross in the box to Bryan, who volleyed in her shot past Elon goalkeeper, Katrin Hauksdottir for her ninth goal of the season. Carson Jones scored Elon's lone goal of the match in the 79th minute of action.
Hofstra is set to face the sixth-seeded James Madison Dukes in the CAA title match for the second-straight year. The match is set for 1 p.m. at the Hofstra Soccer Stadium on Saturday, November 9.
