WBB: Hofstra Shifts Focus to LIU Saturday

11/27/2019 3:00:00 PM

THE FIRST LOOK
The Hofstra University Women's Basketball team will close out the month of November with an away contest at nearby Long Island University. Game time against the newly renamed Sharks is set for 2 p.m. at the Steinberg Wellness Center on Saturday, November 30.

HOW TO WATCH
In addition to Pride Productions live audio, the game will be streamed live via NEC Front Row. Live statistics will also be available.

INSIDE THE SERIES
Prior to LIU's rebrand, Hofstra leads the all-time series against LIU Brooklyn, 15-5. Despite being separated by just 29 miles, Hofstra and LIU have not met since the 2007-08 season when the Blackbirds won, 61-56. Hofstra has won three out of the four meetings against LIU dating back to the 1991-92 season.

A WIN OVER LIU WOULD…
  • Give Hofstra its second win of the season
  • Be the 716th known victory in the history of Hofstra women's basketball and 472nd at the NCAA Division I level.
SCOUTING THE SHARKS
LIU (0-6) enters Saturday's contest without a win this season. The Sharks most recently dropped a 80-49 decision to Stony Brook on Saturday. Brandy Thomas leads the team with a near double-double, averaging 11.3 points and 8.2 rebounds per contest to lead the Sharks. Jeydan Johnson follows with 10.5 points while also leading the team with 15 assists and Kiara Bell rounds out the top-three scorers with 10.0 points per game.

SCOUTING THE PRIDE
Hofstra (1-4) is searching for its first win since the season opener against Hartford. Entering the contest against the LIU Sharks, Hofstra is coming off one of its best performances of the season against Howard, where four Pride players finished in double figure scoring including redshirt sophomore Jaylen Hines, freshman Sorelle Ineza, sophomore JaKayla Brown and redshirt junior Ana Hernandez Gil. Hines led the way, tallying her first career double-double with 17 points (5-of-7 FG) and 13 rebounds, while Ineza was one assist shy of a double double, tallying 13 points and nine assists.

Through the first five contests, Hernandez Gil leads the Pride with 9.8 points per game, while Ineza follows with 9.2 points per contest. Brown and Hines are not far behind with 8.8 and 8.0 points per night, respectively.

UP NEXT
Hofstra will return to the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex for its fourth home game out of the last five when the Pride welcome Morgan State to Hempstead. Game time against the Bears is set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4.
