New Market, VA – Hofstra Men's Cross Country senior
Alex Masai recorded the second-best 8K time in conference history and captured his second consecutive Colonial Athletic Association Cross Country Championship at the New Market Battlefield course Saturday morning.
Masai, who topped his 2018 time by six seconds, posted a time of 23:54.5 to become just the sixth runner in CAA history to repeat as conference men's cross country champion in consecutive years. Previously Pete Weilenmann from James Madison, who won three consecutive championships from 1987 through 1989, George Mason's Julius Achon (1996-97), William and Mary's Matt Lane (1998-99) and Ed Moran (2002-03), and Elon's Nick Cialkowski (2015-16) repeated as CAA champ.
Masai's championship time was second only to Matt Lane's 23:46.01 from William and Mary at the 1999 championship in Wilmington, North Carolina. Masai was named the 2019 Most Outstanding Performer and also earned All-CAA honors for the second straight CAA Championship.
Masai also recorded his fourth meet title in as many outings this season and won his sixth cross country title in seven career meets.

Isa Suleiman placed third in 24:40.6 to give Hofstra two All-CAA selections in consecutive championships. Junior
Tosin Ibironke was the Pride's third finisher, posting a time of 27:14.5 while sophomore
Paul Markovina placed 45

William and Mary, behind five runners placing in the top 10, captured their 20
th consecutive CAA Team Championship with 27 points. Tribe senior JP Trojan, the 2017 CAA Champion, placed second between the Hofstra runners in 24:04. Northeastern finished second with 67 points with Elon third with 84 and Hofstra fourth with 112. College of Charleston (117) and UNCW (135) completed the CAA field.
Masai and the Pride will return to action on Friday, November 15 at the NCAA Division I Northeast Regional Championship hosted by the University at Buffalo.
