Buffalo, NY – Hofstra Men's Cross Country senior Alex Masai continued with his career of firsts by becoming the first Pride runner to win the NCAA Division I Men's Cross Country Northeast Regional Championship at the University at Buffalo Friday afternoon.

Masai recorded a school-record 10K time of 28:42.3 to top the field of 268 runners Friday. His time shattered Rudy Martinez's 2005 school mark of 31:05 at the NCAA Northeast Regionals at Franklin Park in Boston, Massachusetts. Masai crushed Martinez's mark by 2:23. Masai also recorded his fifth meet title in as many outings this season and won his seventh cross country title in eight career meets.

Masai, the two-time Colonial Athletic Association champion, will advance to the 2019 NCAA Division I Men's Cross Country Championship on the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Indiana on Saturday, November 23.

Pride freshman Isa Suleiman placed 14th in 29:07.7 to help lead Hofstra to a 26th-place team finish with 701 points. Suleiman earned All-Northeast Regional honors with his finish joining Masai. Junior Tosin Ibironke was the Pride's third finisher, posting a time of 33:18.7 to finish 226th, freshman Ben Haber finished 232nd in 33:35.4 while senior Dante Perez was 258th in 35:34.7.

Harvard, behind five runners placing in the top 29, captured NCAA Northeast Regional Championship with 59 points. Syracuse was second with 86 points while Iona was third with 96 points in the 37-team field.

Due to the heavy snowfall in Western New York this week, the Division I Northeast Regional Championship was moved from the Audubon Golf Course in Amherst to a road race on campus.
