Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra University women's tennis team opened their dual match season with a flourish by sweeping Monmouth, 7-0, Tuesday afternoon at the Hofstra Tennis Courts.
The Pride moved to 1-0 on the season, after opening the year with three tournaments. Monmouth slipped to 2-3 on the season.
The Pride rallied to win the doubles point as the Hawks took the first match, at No. 2, before
Jasmine King and
Maddie Brown posted a 6-2 victory at the first flight over Nicole Gasser and Sophia Fredriksson.
Brooklyn Samuels and
Mandisa Walle clicnhed the point for the Pride with a 6-0 win at No. 3 against Emily Manzo and Caroline Mattise.
Hofstra won all six singles flights including five in straight sets.
Odessa Stork got things rolling with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Fredriksson at No. 3. Brown followed with a 6-4, 6-2 victory against Gasser at No. 2.
Ronia Dolabany clinched the match at No. 4, winning 6-4, 6-1 over Manzo.
Samuels had a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 6 against Sydney DeNardo, while King posted a 6-1, 7-5 win against Ann Spurka at No. 1. Walle closed the afternoon with a 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 win against Chinonye Gabriel at No. 5.
Hofstra will be back in action Saturday, October 12 against Fairfield at Noon.
