WTEN: Hofstra Picks Up 5-2 Win Over Fairfield

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra women's tennis team won four singles flights and claimed the doubles point to post a 5-2 victory over Fairfield Saturday afternoon at the Hofstra Tennis Courts. The win was Hofstra's second in a row.

The Pride moved to 2-0 on the season while Fairfield, which is the defending MAAC Champion and NCAA Tournament team, fell to 1-1.

Hofstra picked up the doubles point with back-to-back wins from Odessa Stork and Mandisa Walle at No. 3 and Jasmine King and Maddie Brown at No. 1. Stork/Walle defeated Amanda Nowak/Laina Campos, 6-3, with King and Brown following with a 6-4 win against Paulina Bakaite and Diana Prinos.

The match was tied, 2-2, after the first three completed singles flights as Bakaite (No. 2) and Diana Prinos (No. 3) sandwiched wins around a Pride victory from Alejandra Ruffini at No. 1 over Nowak, 6-4, 6-4.

Katherine Kachkarov gave Hofstra the lead at No. 4, rallying from a set down to post a 1-6, 6-3, 6-0 victory over Aina March. Walle then clinched the Pride's victory at No. 5, defeating Jessica Pil, 6-3, 6-1. Odessa Stork provided Hofstra's final point with a 7-5, 6-7, 10-7 win over Sophia Prinos at No. 6.
