Bethlehem, PA – Hofstra senior
Alex Masai broke his own school record and won his second meet title in as many outings to lead the Pride Men to a 32
nd-place finish at the Paul Short Run College Men's Gold 8K Race at Lehigh University Saturday afternoon.
Masai, the 2018 Colonial Athletic Association Cross Country Runner of the Year and conference champion, followed up on his second consecutive Stony Brook Wolfie Invitational title on September 7 with his record-breaking performance Saturday. He clocked a time of 23:17 to win by six seconds over Navy senior Jake Brophy. Masai also broke his own Hofstra record, set at the 2018 CAA Championships, by 43 seconds. The win is Masai's fourth cross country title in five career meets.
Hofstra newcomer
Isa Suleiman made his Pride debut with a 20
th-place finish in 23:52.6, a time that would have broken the school record had Masai not reset the mark today. Sophomore
Paul Markovina was the Pride's third finisher, posting a time of 25:32.4 to place 268
th and earn 241 points.
Pride junior
Tosin Ibironke was Hofstra's fourth finisher, posting a time of 26:56.8 to place 369
th and earn 300 points. Freshman
Ben Haber was the Pride's fifth and final finisher, placing 383
rd in 27:44.2 to earn 308 points.
As a team, Hofstra finished 32nd in the 45-team field with 870 points. Utah State won the team title with 54 points. Penn was second with 152 points and Adams State was third with 193 points.
Hofstra will return to action on Saturday, October 19 at the Princeton Invitational in Princeton, New Jersey.
