10/19/2019 3:50:00 PM

Princeton, NJ – Hofstra senior Alex Masai captured his third meet championship of the season to lead the Hofstra Men's Cross Country team to a 16th-place finish at the 8K Princeton University Invitational Saturday morning.

Masai, the 2018 Colonial Athletic Association Cross Country Runner of the Year and conference champion, added the Princeton title to go with his earlier championships this season at the Stony Brook Wolfie invitational and the Lehigh Paul Short Run. His time of 23:19.3 was just two seconds off of equaling his school record time set at the Paul Short Run on October 5. The win is Masai's fifth cross country title in six career meets.

Hofstra newcomer Isa Suleiman made his second Pride appearance and placed sixth in 24:01. Junior Tosin Ibironke was the Pride's third finisher, placing 173rd in 26:21.5. Sophomore Paul Markovina finished 188th in 26:33.6 while freshman Ben Haber was 214th in 27:21.5 to round out the scoring places. Senior Dante Perez was Hofstra's final runner, finishing 231st in 28:31.1.

As a team, Hofstra finished 16th in the 24-team field with 443 points. Stony Brook won the team title with 55 points. Connecticut was second with 120 points and La Salle was third with 133 points.

Hofstra will return to action on Saturday, November 2 when the Pride compete in the 2019 Colonial Athletic Association Cross Country Championships at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
