Hempstead, NY - Kaya Gore defeated
Shawn Jackson at No. 1 singles in the final match of the day to snap a 3-3 tie and give Fairfield a 4-3 victory over Hofstra Saturday at the Hofstra Tennis Courts.
The Pride slipped to 1-1 on the season with the loss, while Fairfield moved to 2-0.
Jackson and
Ostap Kovalenko won their No. 2 doubles flight match, 6-4, over Griffin Schlesinger and Tyler Shibles, but the Stags won the other two flights to claim the point.
The Pride won three of the first five completed singles flights, tying the match at 3-3.
Jun Sasagawa defeated Shibles (6-3, 6-4) at No. 2.
Jonathan Mahrt Guyou downed Schlesinger (6-2, 7-5) at No. 5, and
Yusuke Nishitani picked up a win (6-3, 3-6, 6-3) at No. 6 over Stefan Mitrovic. But Gore won a hard-fought match against Jackson (6-3, 5-7, 7-6) at the top-flight to give the Stags the win.
Hofstra returns to action Oct. 17 at the ITA Northeast Regional in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Â
