Princeton, NJ – The 23rd-ranked Princeton Tigers scored two goals in the opening 20 minutes and held off Hofstra, 2-1, Sunday night at Plummer Field at Roberts Stadium.
The Pride slipped to 4-3 on the season while Princeton improved to 5-1.
Olivia Sheppard put the Tigers on the board 1:34 into the game when she took a pass from Tomi Kennedy and sent a short shot past Hofstra keeper
Ashley Wilson. Mimi Asom put Princeton up by two at the 19:09 mark when her shot beat Wilson inside the left post. Abby Givens picked up the assist on the play.
Hofstra cut the deficit in half at 28:10 when
Sabrina Bryan took a headed pass from
Jenn Buoncore and found the back of the net. The goal was Bryan's second of the season.
But that would be the last score for either side as both defenses clamped down in the second half. Hofstra did apply plenty of pressure in the half, tallying seven shots but Natalie Grossi stopped all four on target volleys to preserve the win. Grossi finished with five saves.
Wilson made one save in goal for Hofstra. Bryan led the Pride with four shots while
Miri Taylor came off the bench and had two shots (both on goal).
Hofstra is back in action Thursday night at Columbia.
