WSOC: Hofstra Rallies To Defeat FDU In Overtime

Teaneck, NJ - Lucy Shepherd's goal with 4:21 remaining in the second overtime gave Hofstra a 2-1 road victory over Fairleigh Dickinson Thursday night at University Stadium. Hofstra rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to win for the third time in the last four matches.

The Pride improved to 4-2 on the season while the Knights slipped to 2-5.

Fairleigh Dickinson got on the board at the 24:59 mark of the first half on a goal from Viktorija Miseljic, who converted a rebound off a shot from Madelyn Robbins. The Knights would take the lead into halftime, but Hofstra finally broke through 5:13 into the second half when Sabrina Bryan picked up a loose ball in the box and put a shot past FDU keeper Amanda Fitzgerald to tie the score.

Neither team could capitalize on their opportunities throughout the rest of regulation or the first overtime. But late in the second overtime, Lucy Porter slid a pass to Shepherd on the right wing and the sophomore put the shot into the left side of the goal for the first game-winning goal of her career.

Hofstra keeper Ashley Wilson made seven saves in goal for the Pride, which outshot the Knights, 17-13. Bryan had five shots to lead Hofstra and Jenn Buoncore tallied four shots (three on goal).

Fitzgerald had seven saves for FDU.

Hofstra will be back in action Sunday night when it faces No. 23 Princeton in the fourth match of five consecutive on the road. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
