WSOC: Second Half Surge Propels Hofstra Past UNCW

Durham, NC – Miri Taylor and Sabrina Bryan scored second half goals as Hofstra rallied from goal down to defeat UNCW Sunday afternoon, 2-1, at Duke's Koskinen Stadium.
Hofstra improved to 9-4 overall and 3-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association with the win. UNCW fell to 7-3 overall and 1-2 in the CAA.

Molly McGarry scored on a penalty kick at 63:38 following a handball in the box to put the Seahawks on top, 1-0. But Taylor scored her second goal in as many games at 71:15 as she turned and fired a shot past Sydney Schneider, who came on in goal to start the second half. Just over three minutes later, Bryan took a header pass from Jordan Littleboy and one-timed a shot past Schneider for the game-winner.

The teams played to a scoreless first half, though Hofstra had a 7-4 shot advantage. UNCW keeper Caitie Broderick had four first half saves. Hofstra keeper Jenna Borresen made one save in the first half before yielding to Ashley Wilson in the second. Wilson finished with five saves in the second half.

UNCW ended with a 13-11 edge in shots after taking nine in the second half compared to four for the Pride. The Seahawks also had an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.

-Hofstra is now 13-5-2 all-time against UNCW.
-Hofstra has won two consecutive games and five of the last six contests.  
-The Pride has outscored their opponents, 12-6, in the second half this season.
