WTEN: Ruffini and Kachkarov Win Doubles Flight At Hofstra Invitational

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra University doubles team of Alejandra Ruffini and Katherine Kachkarov won the "A" Doubles draw at the 2018 Hofstra Invitational Friday evening. Singles play will begin Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m.

Ruffini and Kachkarov went 3-0 on the day, starting their run by defeating Fidan Khalilzade and Samantha Lugtu of Wagner, 6-1, in the quarterfinals. The pair then posted a 6-4 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson's Tatiana Eftenoiu and Carolin Menzen. Ruffini and Kachkarov closed out the day by downing Dilara Spicer and Meagan Brown of Siena in the finals, 7-5.

The Pride tandem of Sarah Catherine Herndon and Jasmine King went 0-2 on the day in the "A" Flight, suffering a 6-2 loss to Spicer and Brown in the quarterfinals and then a 6-4 loss to Anamaria Vladescu and Marta Ruszczynska of FDU in the consolation semifinals.

In "B" doubles, the team of Ana Canahuate-Torres and Ronia Dolabany picked up the consolation championship with a 6-1 victory over Hofstra teammates Michal Kaplan and Hailey Feuer. Canahuate-Torres and Dolabany dropped a hard-fought main draw quarterfinal match to Diana Pinzariu/Alegra d'Alessandro of Wagner, 7-6 (8-4). The pair then received a bye in the consolation draw to advance to the finals.

Kaplan and Feuer fell to eventual flight champions Juliana Goehner/Nanea Perkins of Siena, 6-1, in the main draw quarterfinals before rebounding in the consolation semifinals by posting a 6-3 win over Siena's Anessa Leyva and Ann Phillips. That set up the all-Hofstra consolation final.

The eight Hofstra players that competed in doubles, along with Odessa Stork, will compete in singles action on Saturday.
