VB: Hofstra Routs Elon

Hempstead, NY - Junior Laura Masciullo had 10 kills and four blocks, sophomore Dubravka Krakovic added a career-best six blocks and freshman Maddie Appleton posted a match-high 20 digs to lead the Hofstra Volleyball team to an easy three-set win over Elon on Friday evening at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center.

Set scores were 25-18, 25-14 and 25-8 for Hofstra, which improved to 12-5 and 2-1 in Colonial Athletic Association action. Elon slipped to 8-5 and 0-2 in the league.

The eight points allowed in the third set are the fewest Hofstra has allowed to a conference opponent in the rally score era (sets one through four) since holding Towson to seven points in the second set of a five-set win on November 17, 2012.

Hofstra dominated Elon on the strength of its defense as the Pride held the Phoenix to a negative .057 attack percentage in the match. It marked Hofstra's best defensive effort since holding Delaware State to a negative .059 attack percentage on August 30, 2013.

Freshman Aisha Skinner added nine kills, seven digs and three blocks for Hofstra, which also got eight kills from senior Michela Rucli and 13 digs from sophomore Ivania Ortiz. Maddie Jaudon posted 11 digs for Elon, while Kodi Garcia and Haylie Clark each had 10 assists and three digs for the Phoenix.

Hofstra returns to action on Sunday when it hosts William & Mary at 1 p.m.
