MSOC: Hofstra Edges Dartmouth; Extends Win Streak To Three Games

Hempstead, NY - Matthew Vowinkel's goal in the 74th minute broke a scoreless tie and Alex Ashton made four saves as Hofstra extended its win streak to three games and unbeaten streak to four with a 1-0 victory over Dartmouth Tuesday night at Hofstra Soccer Stadium. 
 
Hofstra evened its record at 3-3-2 with the win, while the Big Green fell to 0-4-2.
 
Vowinkel headed in a cross from the left side by Storm Strongin for his fourth goal of the season. The Big Green did not go quietly as they peppered the Pride defense with nine shots in the final 16 minutes. But just two were on target and Ashton was up to the task as he recorded his fourth consecutive shutout. 
 
Dartmouth had a 15-6 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in shots on goal. The Big Green also had seven corner kicks to Hofstra's five. 
 
Dartmouth keeper Henry Stusnick made one save in the losing effort. 
 
Hofstra is back in action Saturday when it opens up Colonial Athletic Association play against UNCW. Due to the effects of Hurricane Florence on the Wilmington area, the game will be played in Elon, North Carolina, at 12 p.m.
 
Notes:
-Hofstra snapped a three-game losing streak to Dartmouth and is now 2-4 all-time versus the Big Green.
-Strongin had his second assist of the season.
-Vowinkel has scored in three consecutive games.
-Hofstra and Ashton have not allowed a goal in 382:17.
