Bronx, N.Y. – The Hofstra Women's Soccer team struck early and often, as senior
Jenn Buoncore scored twice and added an assist in a 3-1 win at Fordham on Thursday night at Jack Coffey Field.
The Pride improved to 3-1 on the season, while Fordham dropped to 0-4.
Hofstra got things started early, with sophomore
Lucy Shepherd netting her first of the season with assists from Buoncore and junior
Monique Iannella in the third minute. Hofstra then continued to carry the momentum, with Buoncore getting her first of the night in the 20th minute, capitalizing on a three-on-two with sophomore
Sabrina Bryan.
The Rams regrouped and pulled a goal back in the 33rd minute with a free-kick strike from Margaret Roughley that found the upper corner, cutting the lead in half.
But Hofstra reasserted its dominance early in the second half, with Buoncore scoring her second of the game on an assist from Littleboy.
The Pride backline was once again solid, with Fordham mustering just the one shot on goal.
Hofstra stays on the road this weekend, heading to No. 6 Virginia for a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday.
Notes:
-Buoncore's multi-goal performance was the first of her career.
-Littleboy recorded her first career assist last game against Boston University and now has two on the season.
-The Pride have won eight straight meetings against Fordham dating back to 2005.
